Annual International SILVER  Competition Awards Birmingham Photographer Kim Riegel 


April, 2007  Birmingham, AL:  Calumet Photographic has awarded Kim Riegel, a Birmingham, AL photographer, an honorable mention award for her work at the 2nd Annual International Silver Conference and Print Competition.  Michelle Dunn Marsh, Director of Aperture West, and Dennis Keeley, Chair of Photography and Imaging at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA were the 2007 jurors.

Ms. Riegel competed with more than 350 artists whose work was submitted for the exhibit and one of only 12 photographers recognized in the Masters category of the competition.  Amateur and professional photographers were invited to submit black and white photographs to Calumet Photographic for consideration in the competition.  A separate category was included for college students enrolled in a photography curriculum, and a third division was for photographs made with large format cameras.

Ms. Riegel’s work, entitled “Tonia & Patrick” will be displayed at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.  A commemorative book of the winning photographs, Silver, is available through

The International Silver Conference and Print Competition, sponsored by Calumet Photographic and Ilford Photo, is held annually at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.  The 2007 conference featured guest speakers Keith Carter, Mary Virginia Swanson, and John Sexton, among others.  In addition, the conference presented darkroom demonstrations, portfolio reviews, and panel discussions of black and white photography.
